Case study · Caching
Cutting cache memory 44%
Key-level memory profiling and a shared Redis client library cut cache memory 44%, peak utilization from 94% to 56%, and ended connection drops.
Result: Cache memory: down 44%. Peak utilization: 94% → 56%.
Context
A production cache sat behind several latency-sensitive services.
Problem
The cache had become a single point of failure: frequent connection drops, nodes near capacity, no way to run it locally, and data drifting out of sync.
Approach
Moved the cache to dedicated, long-lived nodes, profiled memory key by key to remove waste, and built a shared Java/Python client library with cluster-aware pooling, TTL defaults and metrics.
Result
- Memory down 44%; peak utilization 94% → 56%.
- Connection drops resolved.
- Local development became possible.
